The challenge
JMR Trucking runs full-truckload and last-mile operations across Tanzania, with dispatch over phone calls and WhatsApp and drivers submitting paper trip sheets days after a run. Vehicle utilisation was estimated, never measured, and leadership suspected significant fuel pilferage and unauthorised detours but could not prove it. Off-the-shelf telematics stopped at dots on a map, while billing, proof of delivery, driver settlements, and maintenance still lived in disconnected spreadsheets.
Our approach
- Fitted GPS/IoT devices with fuel-level sensors across the fleet, streaming over two million data points a day into a FastAPI ingestion service and PostgreSQL/PostGIS store
- Built a React control tower with a live map, geofenced route corridors, automated ETAs, and alerts for route deviation, unscheduled stops, harsh driving, and abnormal fuel drops
- Delivered a React Native driver app for trip acceptance, navigation, digital proof of delivery with photo and signature, and expense logging
- Sent customers automated tracking links and delivery confirmations over WhatsApp and SMS
- Closed the commercial loop on AWS with Docker: trips flow into billing, settlements come from verified trip data, and odometer-linked maintenance flags services before breakdowns
The results
We built a fleet management platform with live GPS tracking, automated dispatch, and driver apps that transformed on-time performance and cost control.
- On-time deliveries
- 71% to 94%
- Fuel costs
- -18%
- Fleet utilisation
- +22%
- Customer tracking calls
- -80%
